Why Hello, Internet

My job requires that I know a little bit about everything--dinosaurs one week, the evolution of agriculture the next.
As an insatiably curious person, this suits me just fine. I love the challenge of figuring out new concepts. My formal training is actually in history, but now I can and do use words like ‘hypergolic fuel’ and ‘coelacanth’ in everyday conversation. Living in nyc means that I’m never at a loss for a new exhibit to peruse or a new documentary to see. It means that while I’m walking down the street, I’m stepping on hundreds (or thousands or even millions) of years of history. I’m never that far from one of those historical plaques; I love those things. Being curious means that I always want to know more. It means that I come home from an exhibit and start reading about a minute detail, or exploring an interesting character, or (and this is my favorite) contemplating just how much we don’t know yet. So, here we are. My hope is that this blog will serve as a clearinghouse for all those questions I think up and then answer for myself. Besides, I may be the only Brooklyn-transplant who doesn’t have a blog at this point. And you, dear reader, should feel free to send me your questions as well. I know you have them. I hear you at parties trying to answer some obscure question before someone in the group says “We should ask Emily; she knows about stuff like that.” Well, I do and I would love to take a stab at answering all those pesky little questions you have about the world around us. So let’s ask some questions, go on some adventures, liberally use oxford commas, and find some answers. This, my friends, is going to be serious amounts of audaciously nerdy fun.
